Thin and crispy pizza has become increasingly popular because it usually contains fewer carbohydrates and calories than thicker variations of Italian pie, such as pan pizza. Here are the basic steps you'll need to prepare a restaurant style thin and crispy pizza at home:
Gather your ingredients.
To make your pizza dough, there a few ingredients you'll need on hand, such as flour, water, oil, sugar, salt and yeast. The ingredient proportions below should be enough to make one thin and crispy pizza crust.
Mix your ingredients.
You can use a traditional paddle mixer to mix your ingredients. However, the process can be a bit cumbersome because with a mixer, you will need to mix the dough for several minutes at a slow speed.
A more efficient option is the use of a food processor with a high-powered steel blade. You simply place all of your dough ingredients into the processor and process for about 30 seconds. Don't expect the dough to look like the pizza dough you've seen on television at this point. Instead, the dry dough mixture will resemble cornmeal.
Form your dough ball.
Place the cornmeal-like dough onto a table or other flat work surface and press the dough together until it forms a stiff ball.
Cover the dough.
Place the dough for your thin and crispy pizza in an oiled container, such as a large bowl or pot, and seal the container with a top or plastic wrap to prevent any portion of the dough from hardening or forming a crust.
Give the dough time to rise.
Allow the dough to proof at room temperature for a few hours or allow it to rise more slowly in the refrigerator for about a day. Proofing is the term given to the rising of dough. It occurs due to the fermentation of the yeast, which produces carbon dioxide that puffs the mixture.
Flatten the dough.
Using a rolling pin, flatten the dough. Each time the circle of dough stretches a couple of inches, flip it over and dust it with a bit of flour. Continue rolling until your dough is about a quarter of an inch thick.
Place your dough on a lightly greased pizza pan and add your sauce, cheese and toppings.
Bake your pizza at around 475 F until it browns and the cheese melts.
As long as you have the necessary ingredients on hand, you can make a delicious thin and crispy pizza at home.
