Planning A Birthday Party For A Picky Eater? What To Know

by Andy Hill

If you are looking to host a birthday party at a restaurant for a very picky eater, but you aren't sure what they will eat or if you can find a restaurant that will suit everyone's palate, there are a few things to consider. Before planning the event be sure that you can bring in a desert if needed, and that you can get meal options to accommodate everyone.  Here are a few things you want to do before you it down and find out that your birthday dinner is a bust.

Ask About the Dessert Policy

Not all restaurants allow outside food to come in. If you're looking to bring in cupcakes, a birthday cake, or another type of treat for the celebration, you want to call ahead and ask what the specific dessert policy is. This way you don't get there and get told you have to leave your treat in the car.

Call Ahead for Specialized Menu Options

Restaurants often have party menus or menus for group that you won't see on the regular menu. Call and ask the manager if they have a specific menu for large groups or if you can put together a few options at the same costs for all the people attending the party. This can help the managers plan for the types of food your large party will order, and you can be sure they will have something everyone will eat.

Ask About Call Ahead Options and Separate Bills

Some places allow you to call ahead a few days before the event; others want you in the books far in advance. Find out when you have to book the large party so you can sit together, and also ask about separate bills. If you are a large reservation, they may make you have everyone on one tab. If this isn't what you want, request that it isn't done that way right away.

There are a lot of different things that can become a problem when you're trying to plan an event for a large group of people. Call around to the different dining options in your area so you can find out how easy or difficult it's going to be to plan the event at each location. You want the picky eater to feel special on their birthday, and you want things to go smoothly, so look into these different restaurant details. Check out a restaurant like Melting Pot Pizza to get started.
