Six Things You Shouldn't Assume About Eating Pizza

by Andy Hill

Pizza is a tasty and convenient food that is a favorite dish for many people. Unfortunately, some people are disinclined to eat pizza because they make inaccurate assumptions about this popular food option.

Don't forego a delicious pizza dinner because you're misinformed about this classic food. The following are six things that you shouldn't assume when it comes to eating pizza.

Pizza is an unhealthy food

One of the most inaccurate assumptions you shouldn't be making about pizza is that it has to be unhealthy. Pizza recipes can include a wide variety of vegetables like spinach and broccoli that are healthy and nutrient-rich. Plain pizza is also a great source of calcium, protein, the antioxidant lycopene, and much more.

Pizza only offers Italian flavors

Although pizza is traditionally served with classic Italian ingredients such as tomato, oregano, and mozzarella cheese, it is a dish that can also showcase the flavors and spices of other culinary traditions.

For example, nowadays options like Mexican pizza or chicken tikka masala pizza are available that offer diners the opportunity to combine the tradition of pizza with culinary traditions from all around the world.

Pizza will make you fat

Although pizza may contain carbohydrates, it is not necessarily more fattening than a variety of other fast foods like cheeseburgers. Pizza can also be made to be less fattening if lower-carb options like a thin crust are used or if reduced-fat mozzarella cheese is used.

Pizza has to include tomato sauce

You can still enjoy pizza even if you don't like the taste of tomatoes. There are quite a few recipes for pizza that don't include any tomato sauce. The most common tomato-free pizza options include white pizza, which is usually made with ricotta cheese, or chicken bacon ranch pizza.

You can't eat pizza if you're vegan

Those who follow a vegan diet can still indulge in the tastiness of pizza. There are many vegan mozzarella cheeses on the market that can create a dairy-free pizza that tastes very much like the real thing.

Vegan cheeses can be produced from substances such as soy, nuts, or other plant-based ingredients.

Pizza is boring

If you find plain pizza to be boring or plain, there are plenty of things you can spice it up with. For example, you can add red pepper flakes, meats, hot sauce, and any number of topping options to make things more interesting and flavorful.
